Our stone binding resin is designed to secure gravel, creating a durable, porous surface that easily adapts to various applications and environments. This binder effectively bonds different types of gravel, resulting in a cohesive and stable surface that is both visually attractive and highly functional.

Material Composition
Formulated with polyurethane, this binder is renowned for its exceptional durability and performance. This composition ensures that the resin withstands environmental stresses and regular use, maintaining its effectiveness over time.

Advantages Over Alternatives
The use of polyurethane in this product offers significant advantages over more economical, water-based gravel binders. Polyurethane binders provide superior resilience and maintain their structural integrity for extended periods, making them ideal for areas with frequent foot or vehicular traffic where longevity and minimal maintenance are essential. Unlike water-based binders, which require frequent reapplication due to their reduced strength, this binder offers a durable, long-lasting solution. It is particularly well-suited for constructing pathways, driveways, and other high-traffic areas where enduring quality and durability are critical.

Gravel-Lok: A Polyurethane-Based Gravel Binder
Why it matters: Polyurethane binders offer superior long-term performance compared to low-cost water-based gravel binders. Additionally, water-based binders lack the strength needed for regular foot or vehicular traffic, requiring frequent reapplication, whereas polyurethane binders provide a more durable and reliable solution.

Driveway Application Note:
Gravel-Lok can be used on driveways, however the cost is typically much higher than pouring asphalt or concrete. Gravel-Lok cannot be applied to an existing driveway surface as additional underground support products are required. Regular re-application is often required annually to keep the surface in good condition.

Gravel‑Lok vs Water‑Based Binder — Top 5 Reasons

Top 5 Reasons to Use Gravel‑Lok Over Less-Expensive Water‑Based Binders

01 Superior Strength & Durability

Gravel‑Lok’s high‑performance (non‑water‑based) binder locks aggregates together more effectively than low‑cost water‑based options. The result is a tough, resilient surface that withstands heavier pedestrian and light vehicle traffic without breaking down, cracking, or loosening.

02 True Permeability

Cheaper water‑based binders can clog or seal the surface, reducing infiltration. Gravel‑Lok maintains high porosity and permeability so stormwater passes through, reducing puddling and runoff and helping with LEED and EPA Phase II stormwater goals.

03 Long‑Term Cost Efficiency

Initial costs are offset by far less maintenance and re‑application. Low‑grade binders degrade with UV, freeze‑thaw cycles, and use—leading to frequent repairs. Gravel‑Lok’s longevity makes it more cost‑effective over the life of the installation.

04 Environmental & Aesthetic Benefits

VOC‑free and designed to preserve the natural stone look while keeping it in place. Water‑based binders often leave a cloudy film, discolor, or fail to hold gravel—causing messy, uneven surfaces. Gravel‑Lok enhances both appearance and function.

05 Proven Track Record & Versatility

Trusted across landscape, municipal, and commercial installs—from paths and patios to tree surrounds and drainage. Performs across climates and use‑cases, offering the reliability that cheap alternatives can’t match.

What is Gravel-Lok (Stone Binding Resin)?

Gravel-Lok is Cell-Tek’s single-component, moisture-curing stone binding resin. Applied to clean, dry aggregates, it locks particles together to form a durable, permeable surface that resists raveling—ideal for paths, patios, plazas, and tree pits.

  • Permeable by design to support stormwater goals and reduce runoff.
  • Natural aesthetics with Clear (color-enhancing) or Amber (matte) finishes.
  • Compatible with Cell-Tek’s LSG Series® grid where added structural support is needed.

Where Gravel-Lok Works Best (and Why)

Gravel-Lok is used across residential, commercial, and municipal settings. Typical applications include garden paths, plazas, rooftop terraces, tree pits, planters, drip edges, joints between pavers/flagstone, and decorative stonescaping. It retains a natural look while providing a cleaner, more stable surface than loose gravel.

How the Resin Creates Stability

The resin coats aggregate and binds contact points as it cures. The result is a stone matrix that resists displacement yet stays permeable for drainage and heat mitigation—helpful for ADA accessibility when using 1/8″–1/2″ stones on properly prepared bases.

Key Advantages
  • Cleaner walking surface vs. loose gravel
  • Water passes through—less runoff
  • Low maintenance compared to raked gravel
Design Notes
  • Choose Clear for color pop; Amber for matte
  • Use washed, dry stone for best bonding
  • Pair with LSG grid where loads are higher
