Not sure which turbidity curtain you need?

Made in the USA for still, sheltered water, this Tough Guy® Type 1 DOT Lagoon Curtain keeps turbid water inside your work zone. It is built from heat-sealed 18 oz. nominal laminated vinyl/polyester with #4 brass grommets and rope-reinforced edges. Use it in protected areas with light winds and currents under one foot per second.

The fabric has a 600 psi hydrostatic rating and resists cracking down to -40°. Six-inch square EPS floats keep the curtain at the waterline, and 1/4 in. galvanized chain ballast pulls the skirt straight down. For longer runs, join sections with rope lacing or nylon ties, which are sold separately.

PRODUCT INFO:

  • This is the most frequently specified barrier in the TOUGH GUY® barrier line. It is recommended for construction sites located in protected areas that are exposed only to light winds and to current velocities of less than one foot per second.
  • This type of site may include ponds, shallow lakes, small streams and marshes.
  • Anchorage consisting of stakes or concrete blocks may be required to maintain the barrier in its required position. Barrier sections are connected by rope lacing or nylon ties and supplied separately.

Why Buy Turbidity Curtains from Paramount Materials?

  • We only sell the Tough Guy brand commercial-grade curtains which are made in the USA. Widely regarded as the “go to brand” for quality and strict adherence to stated specifications.
  • We do not sell "no-name" or "off-brand" curtains. These economy curtains often claim to meet spec but due to oversees manufacturing variances sometimes do not, leaving the installer exposed to potential fines and project delays.
  • When you call, we answer. When you call Paramount Materials you get a live person quickly, ready to help with product or order questions. (M-F 5:00 am - 3:00 pm Pacific Time)

Lagoon Curtain, Silt Curtain, Turbidity Curtain: What's the Difference?

Overview
Tough Guy Type 1 DOT lagoon curtain turbidity curtain

Type 1 DOT lagoon curtain for sheltered water

Contractors, engineers, and inspectors use different names for the same tool. A lagoon curtain, a silt curtain, a floating silt curtain, and a turbidity curtain all have a top flotation boom, an impervious fabric curtain extending down underwater, and a chain-weighted bottom hem. Together they keep sediment stirred up by construction inside a contained zone.

The name usually reflects where the curtain is used. On a lagoon, the job is to keep turbid water from spreading through the rest of the water body.

Tough Guy floating turbidity barriers meet or exceed all DOT specifications and are BABA (Build America, Buy America) compliant, so this curtain is ready for public projects.

Built for Fresh Water and Saltwater Lagoons

Performance

Some lagoons are inland and fresh, and some sit along the coast. The 6 in. x 6 in. EPS flotation provides 13.5 lb./ft. of buoyancy in fresh water and 14.4 lb./ft. in saltwater, so the curtain rides at the surface in either. A 1/4 in. galvanized chain ballast pulls the skirt straight down.

Type 1 is recommended for protected areas exposed only to light winds and to current velocities of less than one foot per second. For rougher water, compare our Type 2 and Type 3 turbidity curtains.

Planning a Curtain Run Around a Lagoon

Installation
  1. Measure your containment line: Map the full length the curtain needs to cover around your work area.
  2. Choose a skirt depth: Lagoon curtains are available in depths from 3' to 10' to suit the water at your site.
  3. Join 50' sections: End hems are sealed around a rope and grommeted. Connect sections with rope lacing or nylon ties, which are supplied separately.
  4. Anchor for your conditions: Barriers in moving water, tidal conditions, or windy areas must be anchored in place. Stakes or concrete blocks may be required.
