Note: The below is general information pertaining to the N-Series line. the Mirafi 1160N is not an appropriate fabric for french drains or any application that requires high water flow. For those projects choose a lighter weighted N-Series fabric.

Installing Non Woven Fabric At Jobsite

Applications

Mirafi® N-Series non-woven geotextiles are used in a variety of projects including soil separation and drainage. This material is used for subsurface drainage including highways, embankments, airstrips, and athletic fields. In order for these projects to be successful, they must have well-designed protective filters.

Mirafi® N-Series non-woven geotextile will remove the challenge of guessing the required aggregate gradation to equal soil conditions, finding a convenient, economical origin of a certain aggregate, the transportation and placement of graded aggregate, and making sure the constructed in-place drainage system offers good filter performance.

This fabric is not only heavy-duty but made for subsurface drainage systems, separation of soil, lasting erosion control, and protection for geomembrane in landfills. If you need strength resistance to stand up to installation and other stresses, you will have an effective and long-lasting product for your project.

The Installation Guidelines

French and Trench Drains Geosynthetic placement is cut to the appropriate width before placement. The width should conform to the trench perimeter by at least 6 inches (15 cm) of top overlap.

Place the geosynthetic roll over the trench then unroll enough for the geosynthetic to fit into the trench. Secure the edges of the material with heavy objects to prevent it from falling into the trench.

When there is overlapping, allow for a 3-foot (.9m) overlap from the upstream to the downstream roll.
