Geogrid for Soil Stabilization is the ideal product for reinforcing soil retaining areas and structures.

This biaxial geogrid is constructed from sturdy extruded punched polypropylene and enables the empty space between each grid intersection to enable the confinement of soils and aggregates which will prevent movement and increase ground stability.

PRODUCT SUMMARY

  • Reinforcement Strength: High tensile modulus properties per ASTM D6637 for base reinforcement applications. For structures with dynamic short-term loadings, Mirafi® BXG geogrids offer high strength at low strain and are designed for maximum bearing capacity and shear resistance.
  • True biaxial strengths: Mirafi ® BXG geogrids are biaxial grids that exhibit high tensile strength in both longitudinal and transverse directions, making them suitable for base course reinforcement and soil stabilization applications.
  • Durability: Superior damage resistance from moderate to severe stress installations.
  • Soil Interaction: Superior soil confinement resulting in greater load distribution. A combination of grid structure and polymers create optimum soil-grid interaction.
  • Seams: Panels can be sewn together in the factory or field, providing cross-roll direction strength to facilitate installation

PRODUCT INFORMATION  - TENCATE MIRAFI BXG GEOGRIDS:

APPLICATIONS

Mirafi BXG geogrids deliver strength, long-term performance, reliability and quick installation for base reinforcement for paved roads, construction haul roads, foundation reinforcement, working platforms on weak subgrades, and secondary reinforcement for soil retaining structures.

FUNCTIONS

Confinement - The ability of a geosynthetic to restrain lateral movement from a soil or aggregate through friction or mechanical interlock.

Soil Reinforcement - The synergistic improvement of a total system’s strength created by the introduction of a reinforcing geosynthetic (that is good in tension) into a soil and/or aggregate system (that is good in compression but poor in tension).

Geogrid Roll Used for Stabilization

Geogrid Utilized in Soil Stabilization Applications

Along with the significant list of applications for geosynthetics, most of the benefits accrued involved the decrease of aggregate required for road and rail projects considering it is environmentally expensive to extract, transport, and put in place.

During the late 1970s, geogrids were created and considerably reduced the need for aggregate and had a minor impact on the environment. Geogrids can alleviate the need for large quantities of aggregate in construction such as road pavement construction.

The Basic Benefits Of Geogrids

Geogrids can save money on construction. They will reduce the number of engineering works created through the earth's surface using soil or rock for projects. It will accelerate construction and improve long-term performance, facilitate lower incidences of repair, and other associated interruptions. A good geogrid is a well-designed earth-retaining structure or pavement combining the use of plastic with a minimal amount of resources such as aggregate, concrete, or asphalt to support the increased life of any structure.

The Specific Benefits Of Geogrids

Using the example of road pavement construction, the number of materials used in the capping layer of a road pavement such as aggregates or cement-stabilized soils can be reduced by the addition of a geogrid material. That means there will be less impact on production, fewer transportation emissions, and less need for repair and maintenance of the surface in the future. In turn, it will lessen the impact on the environment. Using geogrid in the sub-base layers of roads will allow for a reduction in the thickness requirements. Geogrids can strengthen and stiffen compacted aggregate layers to the extent that they show better load-bearing performances than layers that are built using aggregate and are twice as thick.

Geogrid in Road Construction

Biaxial geogrids are punched, biaxial, and drawn polypropylene geogrids for a layer of material reinforcement and the stabilization of the subgrade. These geogrids offer exceptional strength, long-lasting performance, dependability, and fast installation for base reinforcement of paved roads, construction haul roads, foundation reinforcement, permanent unpaved roads, working platforms sitting on weak soils, parking areas, and other reinforcement for soil retaining structures.

When constructing roads over a somewhat firm subgrade, road base biaxial geogrids offer a predictable and reliable level of performance to improve pavement life and might reduce the required aggregate or pavement thickness. The high tensile strength and connection ability of biaxial geogrids will limit and curb aggregate from lateral movement. It distributes the applied load over the subgrade to a larger area resulting in a thinner pavement cross-section, longer service life, or a combination of both.

If you are using geogrid for a gravel patio or driveway application you can also use our stone binder which is designed to lock the gravel together only where it touches and water flows through everywhere else. This provides the aesthetic benefit of a gravel surface with the convenience of a solid surface to walk and drive on.

Performance

Biaxial geogrids can decrease the needed granular base fill material for paved and unpaved roads and will seriously reduce the time for construction.

Capability

Large-scale laboratory testing has revealed that biaxial geogrids can increase the number of traffic loadings before failing.

Strength

Biaxial geogrids offer high strength at low strain and show high tensile strength in both longitudinal and transverse directions. This allows for the layer of material below the surface reinforcement and the stabilization of soil.

Soil Interaction

Biaxial will significantly improve geogrid interlocking capacity, efficiently distributing applied loads and preventing localized shear failure. Large-scale pull-out testing has demonstrated these benefits.
